Moment child killer had horror realisation fellow inmates were about to end his life

Shocking new CCTV footage captures the chilling moment a child killer glances nervously over his shoulder as three convicted murderers follow him into his prison cell.

Kyle Bevan, 33, was serving time at HMP Wakefield – a Category A prison known as “Monster Mansion” – for the brutal murder of his two-year-old stepdaughter when he was attacked by fellow inmates.

Footage shows convicted killers Mark “The Iceman” Fellows, Lee Newell and David Taylor stalking Bevan and following him into his cell, before stabbing him 25 times.

The three men then tucked him into bed to make it appear as though he was sleeping.

He was not found until a roll call the next morning, by which point he had already been dead for several hours. Fellows had even checked on him after the killing to ensure the murder had gone undetected.

Fellows, 45 – who previously shot dead ‘gangland kingpins’ Paul Massey and John Kinsella -was handed a whole life order along with Taylor, 64, and Newell, 57, during a hearing at Leeds Crown Court on Friday.

The three conspired to kill Bevan, who had been serving a life sentence for the murder of two-year-old Lola James in Wales, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Footage released by the Crown Prosecution Service chillingly shows the cold-blooded killers laughing and joking together shortly before carrying out the horrific attack. Fellows is pictured wearing blue plastic gloves before carrying out the attack.

A court was told he had been given the nicknames ‘The Iceman’ and the ‘Wakefield Dexter’ by other lags.

At the time of the killing at the Worcestershire prison, Newell was already serving a life sentence for the strangulation of his neighbour, 56 year old Mary Neal, in Norwich in 1988.

Taylor admitted the murder of Alisha Apostoloff-Boyarin, who was reported missing by her family in February 2022. Her body has never been recovered.

He subsequently attempted to murder a Greater Manchester Police officer who had visited HMP Frankland in Durham, where Taylor was being held at the time, to question him about Alisha’s disappearance. Taylor had claimed to have information regarding her whereabouts.

Prosecutors said the men had targeted certain inmates – including sex offenders and those convicted of crimes against children – and suggested they may have sought a transfer out of HMP Wakefield.

Searches of the three men’s cells found items with Bevan’s blood on them, while piece of metal fashioned into a point was recovered and also contained his blood. Other items described as “makeshift weapons” were found in Taylor’s cell.

The jury found that the three men acted together and intended to kill Bevan or cause him serious harm. All three were convicted of murder.

In her sentencing remarks, Mrs Justice McGowan said each brought weapons to the cell ahead of the assault on Bevan. She added that they cornered Bevan in a cell and that at least two of them restrained his arms while he was stabbed 25 times to the neck and torso.

“He was left to bleed to death – his last moments must have been terrifying,” she said.

West Yorkshire Police’s senior investigating officer, Chief Inspector James Entwistle, said: “This was a premeditated brutal attack carried out inside a prison by three long-term inmates.

“Fellows, Taylor and Newell’s actions showed a complete disregard for life and for the rules designed to keep people safe in custody.

“By their very nature, prisons are designed to deny offenders of their liberty, but they also need to be environments that are kept safe from unlawful violence.

“Today’s verdicts ensure the continued safety of others by holding these dangerous individuals to account and ensuring they face the full weight of the law.”
