Taylor Sheridan’s upcoming “Yellowstone” prequel “1944” has its first update in a long time.

Sheridan is the creative genius responsible for the neo-Western that took the entertainment world by storm.

Instead of just being one and done, the “Yellowstone” creator has rapidly expanded the show’s universe. That includes the prequels “1883” and “1923,” “Marshals” on CBS and “Dutton Ranch” on Paramount+.

“1944” gets update.

One of the prequels that has seemingly disappeared from the discourse is “1944.” The show has been known about for years, but it’s pretty much never discussed or in the news.

There’s literally no plot details or any other information about it floating around.

Is it still happening or has Sheridan moved on? We now appear to have the answer.

Madd Webb Mitovich (via MovieWeb) recently reported that the secretive “Yellowstone” prequel series is absolutely in the works at Paramount.

That matches reporting from last October from The Hollywood Reporter. THR reported that “1944” was still in the plans for Sheridan after he inked his massive deal with NBCUniversal.

What will be most interesting is how the story of “1944” plays out. There are a lot of ways to go. Several major male characters in the “Yellowstone” universe have been veterans.

Spencer Dutton fought in World War I, John Dutton fought in Vietnam and Kayce Dutton is a combat-hardened Navy SEAL. I would make an educated guess the main male protagonist of “1944” will have seen action in World War II.

Past that, I have no idea what’s coming, other than the ranch in Montana will remain the central focus, just like in “1923” and “Yellowstone.”

After that, your guess is as good as mine.
