Nebraska running back Mekhi Nelson got into an alleged altercation with his pregnant girlfriend at a Key West resort and was arrested by police. 

Nelson was arrested Monday at the Blue Flamingo Resort in Key West around noon and booked on a misdemeanor battery charge, TMZ reported.

Jail records obtained by KOLN also showed that the Cornhuskers’ running back has been accused of aggravated battery involving a pregnant woman. 

Police officers were called to a disturbance at 11:39 a.m. and responding officers were given two different stories when they entered the room. 

The woman told officers that Nelson had become upset over how long she had been taking to get ready and an argument ensued between the two because of it, according to a police report viewed by TMZ. 

She claimed she eventually locked Nelson out of the room, but later let him in after he began banging on the door and she became concerned that the incident would affect their stay at the resort.

However, she alleged, Nelson became even angrier once he was back in the room and when the woman attempted to call her mom, the football player purportedly took the phone and threw it across the room.

The woman also alleged that Nelson had ripped her bathing suit top and bottoms off her and scratched her stomach in the process. 

Nelson told responding officers, according to the report, that the two got into an argument over how another man, who also shares a child with the woman, was talking to her, and that he had anger problems that “seemed to flare up” when discussing how the other man behaved. 

The University of Nebraska is aware of the incident, according to a statement provided to KOLN. 

“The Nebraska Athletic Department and football program are aware of the arrest of Mekhi Nelson in Florida. We have no further comment at this time,” the school said. 

Nelson appeared in 12 games during the 2025 season and recorded 27 carries for 147 yards and two touchdowns. 

He added another 102 yards in receptions.
