Who’s making Taylor Swift’s wedding dress? As a longtime Swiftie and style expert, here are my best guesses

Who’s making Taylor Swift’s wedding dress? As a longtime Swiftie and style expert, here are my best guesses

As a passionate Swiftie of 15 years who’s been writing about fashion for nearly two decades, I’ve spent much of my career covering Taylor Swift’s sartorial choices, from her stage costumes to her street style. I’ve documented each and every one of her eras, from the cowboy boots and curls of her country debut to the snake prints of “Reputation” to the sequins that defined her “Life of a Showgirl” press tour.

But the dress Swift wears this weekend to marry Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden will be something else entirely: a reflection of Taylor the Person, not Taylor the Performer. And for a hopeless romantic whose love songs are the stuff of legend, that gown will serve as the ultimate symbol of Swift’s fairytale ending, the “happily ever after” she’s been writing about since she was a teenager. To quote the mastermind herself: It’s been a long time coming.

When I recently asked the team at Kleinfeld Bridal to share their predictions for Swift’s dress, buzzwords like “timeless,” “classic” and “feminine” jumped out — and that’s exactly what I envision for her as well. Given the Grammy winner’s fondness for “Love Story”-coded corsets, Old Hollywood references and vintage details, we can likely expect one (or all) of the above elements to factor into her wardrobe for the big day, which will almost certainly include multiple outfit changes.

Given Swift’s the queen of Easter eggs, it’s also a safe bet her bridal looks will include some symbolic touches — think meaningful initials or numbers embroidered inside the dress or on her veil, along with plenty of deeply personal jewelry pulls.

As for the lucky designer? My gut says Swift will do as she’s always done while getting dressed: Look past current trends, possible criticism and fashion-world hype in favor of supporting one (or more) of the brands she’s loved and worn for years.

Below, my top contenders for the job — because while I am not the kind of girl who should be rudely barging in on a white veil occasion, a little educated speculation never hurt anyone.

Stella McCartney

As the designer with whom our bride shares the most history, McCartney’s at the top of my list. The pair have been friends for close to a decade, and McCartney’s dressed Swift for everything from her “Folklore” and “Evermore” album shoots to Kansas City Chiefs games. In 2019, they even collaborated on a capsule collection inspired by Swift’s “Lover” record.

Notably, McCartney’s is one of the brands Swift wears most often in her day-to-day life, not just during press tours and performances. And it’s impossible to ignore the fact that the British designer is fellow music royalty, with Beatles frontman Paul as her dad. Picture it: Swift walking down the aisle in a custom Stella gown as Paul croons “All You Need Is Love” from beside the altar. Now that’s actually romantic.

When fashion legend Oscar de la Renta passed away in 2014, Swift shared a social media tribute calling him her “all-time favorite designer.” Throughout the 2010s, she wore Oscar originals to events ranging from the Met Gala to the CMA Awards, even sitting front row at one of the house’s fashion shows in 2015.

And when longtime de la Renta aides Kim and Garcia were appointed the house’s new creative directors in 2016, Swift continued to show her support, choosing their designs for the 2021 Grammys, 2022 VMAs and the 2023 premiere of her Eras Tour concert film, among other major outings. (Speaking of Eras, Kim and Garcia also created a handful of costumes for Swift’s record-breaking tour.)

The superstar’s also shown Kim and Garcia’s independent Monse label some love, most recently by wearing a custom silver-sequined LBD to perform at her fiancé’s Tight End University concert in late June.

As Page Six reported days after that event, the design duo are frontrunners to dress Swift for her big day — and it’s not hard to see why.

Ralph Lauren

The American fashion house is behind some of the most high-profile celebrity bridal looks in recent history, having outfitting Jennifer Lopez, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Lily Collins and Swift’s BFF Selena Gomez for their weddings. There’s also a sentimental connection here for Swift and Kelce, who were both wearing Polo Ralph Lauren when they got engaged last summer.

Synonymous with clean, classic elegance and a street style staple of Swift’s, Ralph Lauren would be a fitting choice for Miss Americana to wear as she becomes Mrs. Travis Kelce.

Few have suggested the French fashion label as an option for Swift’s wedding attire, which surprises me. Artistic director Nicolas Ghesquière’s red carpet looks have been better than ever lately, as seen on ambassadors like Chase Infiniti, Zendaya and Emma Stone throughout awards season (not to mention Anne Hathaway during her “Devil Wears Prada 2” press tour).

Swift’s also introduced a slew of Louis Vuitton pieces — from bags in the classic monogram to fine jewelry and outerwear — into her closet since she began dating Kelce, a noted fan of the brand. Should the “Cruel Summer” songstress not wear Vuitton at the wedding, her groom very well might.

Versace

Another European house I’m shocked to not see on other fans’ shortlists, Versace’s been the fashion force behind some of Swift’s biggest moments, from her 2016 Grammys Album of the Year win for “1989” to her historic sweep at the 2023 VMAs, where she became the first artist ever to win Video of the Year four times.

Most notably, Versace also created the defining costume from the Eras Tour: the custom embellished bodysuit Swift wore to open each show.

“When you see the Versace bodysuit just made of all these crystals, and the light hits it … it somehow heals me from having the stomach flu,” she said in her “End of an Era” documentary series. “If I’m wearing this, I gotta level up. I gotta be on the level of this outfit.”

If Versace could help Swift push past physical pain and put on three-and-a-half-hour shows for multiple consecutive nights, making her perfect wedding dress should be pretty easy. (And the house has plenty of experience in this area, having designed for famous brides like Angelina Jolie and Britney Spears.)

Dior

Earlier this week, the Hollywood Reporter claimed Swift’s “winning dress” might be a custom Dior Haute Couture design by Jonathan Anderson, noting that A-listers like Jennifer Lawrence, Rihanna, Charlize Theron and Anya Taylor-Joy regularly wear his work.

It’s true that Swift’s stepped out carrying a variety of Dior bags recently, including a bow-topped Le Cigale at a Knicks game in May and a buttercup yellow Lady Dior in April. Sure, those could be Easter eggs. But as noted by my colleague Melissa Minton, model Ming Xi got married in Anderson’s debut wedding dress for Dior just last month. If the house’s buzzy new creative director were working on Swift’s gown, wouldn’t he hold off on all other bridal commissions until after July 3?

Our tortured poet might well tie the knot in Dior — fashion fans would be thrilled! — but I don’t think Anderson’s the most likely man for the job. If I’m wrong about this, consider it proof of Swift’s endless ability to surprise even her most devoted fans.

Givenchy

Another dark horse in this race? Givenchy’s Sarah Burton, who recently dressed Swift in a divine floral-embroidered gown for her induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Known for designing Kate Middleton’s wedding dress in 2011, Burton worked at Alexander McQueen for more than 25 years before taking her talents to Givenchy. Beloved by fashion insiders and celebrities alike, her work blends sharp tailoring with soft, romantic silhouettes and couture-level craftsmanship.

Like Anderson, Burton doesn’t exactly come with deep ties to Swift and her oeuvre. Still, it would make sense for the most powerful woman in music to champion one of the few female creative directors currently leading a luxury label. And the hypothetical design? To paraphrase Swift’s “The Man,” it would be complex, it would be cool.

Vivienne Westwood

Had Swift’s love affair with Vivienne Westwood’s signature corsetry and draping ended along with her “Tortured Poets Department” era, I might not have included it on this list.

But the songwriter continued to rep the British brand as her relationship with Kelce blossomed, wearing it for Chiefs games and nights out on the town. For the 2025 Grammys, she even chose a Vivienne Westwood bustier dress short enough to show off her ruby-studded “T” leg chain, a personal piece created in collaboration with Lorraine Schwartz. (Was the “T” for Travis? For Taylor? You be the judge.)

And having created a custom white corset gown for the “Tortured Poets” section of the Eras Tour, the house has already given fans a sneak peek at what a Vivienne Westwood bridal moment might look like for Swift. Who’s afraid of a little old Easter egg?
