Was Stephen Amell Supposed to Star on ‘Dutton Ranch’?

Dutton Ranch‘s big Season 1 villain might’ve looked a little different if Arrow star Stephen Amell had gotten his way.

We always hear the stories of actors auditioning for iconic roles. According to a new episode of the podcast “Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum,” Amell got candid about the never-ending audition process most actors in Hollywood face.

On the podcast, the Arrow actor told Rosenbaum about a particular experience he had getting the sides for Rob-Will Jackson, the villain from Dutton Ranch, that would eventually be played by Jai Courtney. According to Amell, he and Courtney often get typecast for the same roles, despite his belief the actors have very different acting styles.

So, let’s break down everything Amell said about his experience auditioning for the coveted role of Rob-Will… And why Amell might actually feel like he literally dodged a bullet..

Did Steven Amell Audition for Dutton Ranch?

It’s true. Steven Amell did in fact audition for the role of Rob-Will Jackson, which might have been a stretch for the L.A. Suits star.

On Rosenbaum’s podcast, Amell revealed that he knew Courtney was the perfect choice to play Rip Wheeler’s rival, stating, “I read the breakdown and I said ‘I don’t think I’m right for this, this feels like a Jai Courtney part.’ I said that out loud.”

TVLine reported Amell will next be seen in the upcoming Baywatch reboot, so there are no hard feelings after losing the role to Courtney. But everything happens for a reason…

**SPOILERS FOR THE DUTTON RANCH SEASON 1 FINALE!**

There may be light at the end of the tunnel for Amell. Courtney will most likely not be in season 2 (unless Sheridan loves a flashback). That’s because Rob-Will was shot dead at the end of Season 1. By whom? Well, we don’t know for sure, but we have some good ideas. Rob-Will had many enemies, meaning many Dutton Ranch characters who might have wanted to kill him.

Is Dutton Ranch Going to Have a Season 2?

Yes, there will be a Season 2 of Dutton Ranch! Maybe poor Rob-Will won’t be on our screens anymore, Rip (Cole Hauser) and Beth (Kelly Reilly) will still have to face more turmoil in the dangerous world of South Texas cattle ranching.

As DECIDER previously reported, Paramount officially renewed Dutton Ranch for a second season on June 24.

All episodes of Dutton Ranch are available to stream on Paramount+.
