Austin Reaves reveals what he’ll do with new $185M Lakers deal

STATELINE, Nev. — Austin Reaves has never been one to buy flashy things.

And even though he just agreed to a new $185 million contract extension with the Lakers, he said Wednesday that aspect of his life isn’t changing.

During an exclusive interview with The California Post at the American Century Championship in Nevada, Reaves said there will be no fancy car or jewelry purchases in his near future despite the big checks that are about to hit his bank account.

“I don’t buy stuff,” Reaves said.

Instead, the Los Angeles shooting guard told The Post he’s planning on investing his newfound cash.

“All my stuff goes into investments,” Reaves said, “and hopefully I can set my family up for generations to come.”

Reaves isn’t too sure which stocks or businesses he’ll get involved with — he said he’s got “a guy that does all that.”

“I’m not super into it,” he admitted. “I got into SpaceX a couple years ago. With that going public, that was good. But I don’t really know much about it. I just let [financial advisors] take care of it and hopefully they make me some money.”

Reaves avoided free agency by agreeing to a new four-year pact with Los Angeles late last month. He was actually on a golf course when he got the news, and he crumpled to the ground in relief when the deal got done.

Similar to his spending habits, Reaves said his golf game, too, won’t be altered by the new contract.

“I still mentally cuss myself after every shot if it’s bad,” he said. “Nothing’s changed. My life is still the same.”
