Is Olivia Wilde’s ‘The Invite’ Movie Streaming on Netflix or HBO Max?

Olivia Wilde is hosting the world’s most awkward dinner party in The Invite, a new comedy directed by Wilde, which opens in movie theaters nationwide this weekend.
The Invite is Wilde’s third film as a director, following 2019’s Booksmart and 2022’s Don’t Worry Darling. The screenplay was co-written by Will McCormack and Rashida Jones, and is an English-language remake of the 2020 Spanish film The People Upstairs from filmmaker Cesc Gay. Don’t count out those English-language remakes—after all, CODA won an Oscar.
In addition to directing, Wilde stars in the film as a lonely stay-at-home wife named Angela. Angela’s husband Joe (Seth Rogen) is not pleased to come home after work one day, and discover that his wife has invited their mysterious upstairs neighbors, Pína (Penélope Cruz) and Hawk (Edward Norton), over for dinner. But how else is Angela supposed to make friends?
That said, Angela starts to regret the invite when it becomes clear that the neighbors are interested in a lot more than just a friendly dinner. The film has been well-reviewed by critics so far, and it’s hard to say no to a stacked cast like that. Is The Invite movie streaming on Netflix?
The Invite is not streaming on Netflix and likely will not be on Netflix in the U.S. any time soon, due to the fact that the film is being released by A24 in the U.S., and the 2023 deal between A24 and Warner Bros. Discovery, brings all A24’s previous and upcoming theatrical releases to the Warner Bros. streaming service HBO Max. If you want to watch The Invite at home, you’ll have to wait for the film to be available to buy or rent on digital platforms, or wait for it to stream on HBO Max.

When will The Invite movie be streaming on HBO Max?
You might see The Invite movie streaming on HBO Max around October 2026.
The Invite is not yet streaming on HBO Max. Right now, the movie is only in theaters. That said, we do expect to see The Invite streaming on HBO Max eventually—thanks to the A24 and Warner Bros. deal—but we’re not sure when.
The A24 deal is a “Pay-1 deal,” which means A24 movies will start streaming on Max in the “Pay 1 window,” meaning that Max will be the first “TV channel” to pay for the rights The Invite, after the film has been released on digital and home media. One recent A24 title, The Moment began streaming on HBO Max about four months after its release in theater.
If The Invite follows a similar release strategy, you might see The Invite on digital in about a month, around August 2026, and streaming on HBO Max in about four months, around November 2026.
This is all speculation. The A24 digital and streaming releases have varied by title. If you want to watch The Invite right away, you can catch the movie everywhere in U.S. theaters on Friday.
