George Lucas’ new $1B Los Angeles museum reveals incredible perk to neighbors

California residents living in one special zip code will receive what some have compared to the Golden Ticket, scoring free annual passes to the new out of this world George Lucas museum in Los Angeles.

In an announcement on Thursday, the $1 Billion Lucas Museum of Narrative Art introduced the LM37 pass, which gives those living in South LA’s 90037 zip code free admission to the sprawling 300,000 square foot museum Exposition Park attraction, set to open September 22.

“Museum founders George Lucas and Mellody Hobson have long envisioned the Lucas Museum as a place where neighbors feel welcome and connected through art, storytelling, learning, and shared experiences,” a message about the pass read.

The museum said “holders can reserve admission for themselves and one guest, making it easy to return and enjoy exhibitions, programs, gardens, and public spaces throughout the year.”

The museum’s interim CEO Tracey Bates said the pass is the opportunity “to make sure the neighbors that have been seeing the museum built from the ground up for the past eight years are the first ones inside,” per the Hollywood Reporter.

When the museum finally opens this fall, visitors will get the chance to be transported into a realm where Luke Skywalker’s Landspeeder and other iconic Star Wars vehicles await them.

Die-hard fans of the blockbuster saga can lose themselves among vehicle designs, high-speed racers, soaring ships, props, costumes, and illustrations from the first six “Star Wars” films in the aptly titled exhibition “Star Wars in Motion.”

The showcase will feature Luke Skywalker’s Landspeeder from “Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope” and the first physical build of General Grievous’ wheel bike from “Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith.”

But there will be a whole lot more than just what happens in a galaxy, far, far away.

Co-founded by Lucas and his wife, Mellody, the futuristic-looking museum sits on 11 acres in Exposition Park and will showcase everything from comics and manga to children’s book illustrations and fine art.

Its vast collection stretches across more than 100,000 square feet of gallery space, showcasing over 1,200 treasures selected from a founding collection of more than 40,000 works that Lucas has collected since college.

“I could never sell my art,” Lucas said on the museum website. “It just is not what I think art is. I think it’s more about an emotional connection with the work, not how much it cost.”

A museum news release said the exhibitions “trace the evolution of human culture through storytelling, from ancient sculptures of gods and goddesses to Renaissance paintings to photographs, comics and modern cinema.”

Lucas first unveiled his vision for the museum in Los Angeles in 2017, with the debut delayed several times before finally landing on Sept. 22, 2026.

If you live in the 90037 zip code, you can go to the website to sign up and be notified for when registration starts.
