Suspect in murder of NY mom Jamey Carney had married her in Islamic ceremony, as shocking details emerge

The failed asylum seeker accused of murdering a New York mom in Ireland had earlier married her in an Islamic ceremony — as it emerged the slain mom was beaten with part of a toilet before being suffocated with a hand over her mouth.
Ahmad Al-Saqar, 28, is thought to have fled to his native Jordan, where he is hiding in tribal areas after being identified as the “person of interest” in the murder of Westchester County native Jamey Carney, 43, who moved to Killarney, Ireland, with her daughter in 2001, according to the Irish Independent
He is understood to have met the single mom at a pro-Palestinian rally in Killarney around 18 months ago — and posted a TikTok video earlier this year gushing over them being married.
“My bride and my princess,” he captioned the video of Carney wearing a ring.
Al-Saqar — who was allowed to stay in Ireland despite being turned down for asylum — also proudly told friends that the wedding was an Islamic ceremony, according to a Palestinian friend who lived with him in local migrant accommodation.
“Al-Saqar said they had gone to the mosque and accepted to be husband and wife. In Islam, when you get married, you have to let all the people know that you are husband and wife,” Husam Salham told CrimeWorld.
Salha said he had learned of Carney’s death when he arrived back at his migrant accommodation Tuesday evening, where police were interviewing residents about Al-Saqar, who is thought to have already fled the area before the mom’s daughter found hr body.
“They talked to me for several hours, and they took my phone and asked me to call him,” he said.
Al-Saqar’s phone was still active, but he didn’t answer calls, Salha said, adding that one of his Messenger accounts showed he had been active online less than one hour earlier.
Al-Saqar is suspected to have fled Ireland within 12 hours of Carney’s death last Monday, after boarding a bus from Killarney to Dublin before taking a last-minute flight to Istanbul.
Police in Ireland suspect he is now in hiding in remote tribal areas of Jordan, where he is believed to have contacts, after traveling through Syria, the Irish Independent reported.
Cops now believe Carney was beaten with a heavy toilet cistern lid before she was suffocated with a hand over her mouth as she lay in bed, the Irish Sun reported.
He had become needy and possessive in recent months, leading to Carney to decide to end the relationship, the outlet reported, citing police sources.
Just one week before the murder, Carney confided in a friend that Al-Saqar had asked her for the equivalent of $5,700.
Her bloodied body was found under the blankets of her rented home by her 13-year-old daughter on Tuesday, who called a family friend who alerted the police.
The official cause of death was given as asphyxiation.
“She was beaten with the heavy lid of a toilet cistern and her body concealed under a blanket in her bedroom. It’s a shocking way to take anyone’s life,” a police source told the Irish Sun.
US authorities are believed to be working with Irish police and Europol to confirm Al-Saqar’s whereabouts.
However, even though the US has an extradition treaty with Jordan, such extraditions have been rare.
The US National Central Bureau, the US’s direct liaison with Interpol, made up of personnel from both the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security, is said to be monitoring the investigation.
Carney’s family in New York is also reportedly set to ask the US to support the Irish authorities.
Her mother and sister have flown to Ireland to support her daughter, after launching a GoFundMe to cover Carney’s funeral costs.
The appeal, which organizers say will allow Carney’s daughter to “stay in the land she loves, especially while grieving this tragic loss,” has raised more than $20,000 as of Monday.
