Long Island’s Rob Pannell on verge of breaking Professional Lacrosse League points record

Rob Pannell is a lacrosse stick in the mud when it comes to being on the verge of setting the sport’s all-time outdoor points record — but for the right reasons.

“I’ve never played lacrosse for things like this,” the Maryland Whipsnakes attacker told The Post.

“I’ve always trained with the goal in mind of being my best on game day for my teammates and making sure that I’m not letting them down.”

The 36-year-old icon from Smithtown has 654 career points and is on the verge of surpassing Professional Lacrosse League creator Paul Rabil’s 657-point record set in 2021.

It could come as Maryland plays the California Redwoods on Friday night in PLL action.

“My plan is to try and do it this weekend. I’ll have my family there, my wife and my parents, and it would be a really special moment,” he said.

“I would love to get it over with,” Pannell laughed.

It’s not that the honor of the scoring title is unappealing to the Long Island legend; he just has his sights set on a much more team-oriented ambition.

“I would say the number one thing is winning a PLL championship,” said Pannell, who has won world titles and championships in Major League Lacrosse.

“That’s the ultimate goal…If I can accomplish that, I’d be a very, very happy man.”
