‘Heartbroken’ owner demands $3M after NYC veterinarian ignores Pomeranian while she died during labor: lawsuit

A callous NYC veterinarian ignored a pregnant Pomeranian’s agonizing final hours, causing her and her three unborn pups to die after 30 hours of torturous labor, her devasted owner claims.
Yiutung Lok is demanding a whopping $3 million in punitive damages from a Flatlands animal hospital, VEG ER for Pets, and veterinarian Kayla Anderson for his beloved pet’s horrific death in April.
Lok, 57, claims Anderson brushed off his cries for help about his furry three-year-old friend Eva and insisted the pooch give birth at home — when she urgently needed medical intervention or a C-section, according to the suit filed in Brooklyn Supreme Court Wednesday.
Eva was rushed to the VEG ER for Pets animal hospital in Flatlands at 4:25 a.m. on April 15 in agony, around five hours after she went into labor at home, court papers said.
She was lying motionless inside Lok’s Kensington home when Eva started “leaking a significant amount of green vaginal fluid” and the owner frantically realized something was wrong, according to the lawsuit.
One of the dog’s “water bags” — the amniotic sacs carrying each puppy inside the womb — were protruded and ruptured, Lok also claimed.
He said he told Anderson about the alarming complications the 10-pound Pomeranian was dealing with, but the vet allegedly told him the discharge was “perfectly normal” and sent Eva home, court papers said.
Anderson said the pooch would give birth within the next 16 to 24 hours, according to the filing.
Most dogs go through the birthing process on their own without issue, according to pet care company Purina.
But Lok claimed Eva’s condition only worsened. The dog continued to struggle — and was unable to deliver a single puppy, the lawsuit said.
He called the animal hospital later that day and into the early morning hours — but Anderson allegedly told him to wait it out.
Anderson only suggested Lok bring Eva back to the hospital around 8 a.m. on April 16 — once her shift was over, the suit alleged. But Lok persisted and brought Eva in at 5:40 a.m.
By the time the dog finally received medical attention, it was too late. She died along with her unborn babies on the examination table 20 minutes later, according to the filing.
“He’s completely heartbroken, depressed, overwhelmed. He really misses her,” Lok’s attorney Peggy Collen told The Post.
“His girlfriend cries every day.”
Lok had planned to sell each of Eva’s purebred pups for about $5,000 to loving homes. He and his family have owned Eva since she was a puppy herself.
He said that Houston, his other Pomeranian, was the father of Eva’s babies.
“We were hoping to see and play with Eva’s babies,” Lok said.
“Eva made us laugh every day. Everybody loved her. Our family is devastated.”
The staggering amount Lok is demanding in is to “not only punish this particularly egregious conduct, but to deter similar misconduct in the future,” Collen explained.
A spokesperson for the animal hospital, which has over 120 locations across the US and Canada, said she could not comment on the lawsuit due to client confidentiality.
“Eva’s death was a heartbreaking outcome and our thoughts are with Mr. Lok during this difficult time,” she wrote.
Anderson declined to comment.
