Drake wagers $1.5 million on Lionel Messi, Argentina to win World Cup final

Argentina fans and bettors, beware — the Drake curse could be coming your way.
For the second consecutive World Cup, the rapper is siding with Argentina to win it all.
The “Iceman” is confident that Lionel Messi and Argentina will repeat as World Cup champions, as he shared a screenshot of a whopping $1.5 million bet slip on Instagram on Friday evening.
The betslip, if successful, offers a substantial payout of $5.1 million.
Drake has previously placed bets on Messi’s team.
In 2022, he wagered $1 million on Argentina to win via the three-way moneyline, which required them to clinch victory in 90 minutes.
However, the match went into extra time against France, spoiling Champagne Papi’s betslip.
It seems the Canadian entertainer is honing his betting strategy, as this time he is taking Argentina to win within 90 minutes plus stoppage time.
“What’s that saying??? Better luck next time…say less,” Drake wrote in the caption of the post.
Argentina is a +130 underdog to win the Cup on DraftKings Sportsbook and +255 to do so within 90 minutes.
Messi and Argentina face a youthful Spain team led by 19-year-old Lamine Yamal.
Unlike his chart-topping albums, Drake’s track record with bets isn’t the greatest.
Dating back to September 2025, Drake placed a $300,000 bet on Jannik Sinner to win the U.S. Open championship.

Sinner fell to Carlos Alcaraz in the final.
He followed that up by placing $200,000 on Jake Paul to defeat Anthony Joshua in December, and well, we all know how that played out.
Joshua viciously knocked out Paul.
The calendar turning to 2026 still didn’t help Drake as he backed the Patriots to win the Super Bowl in February, placing a $1 million wager on New England, only for the Seahawks to emerge victorious.

Recently, the “Six God” faced another setback, similar to that of many bettors, during Conor McGregor’s disappointing UFC 329 comeback.
Drake again wagered $1 million, betting on McGregor to win, but it was Max Holloway who secured a first-round TKO after McGregor’s freak injury.
Will Messi and Argentina bring home the Cup for Drake, or will the infamous “curse” live on?
The World Cup final is set for 3 p.m. ET at MetLife Stadium.
