Dead or Alive, A New ‘Robocop’ Series Is Coming to Prime Video

The iconic sci-fi adventure series, RoboCop, is making it’s return.

On Tuesday, Amazon MGM Studios announced a new eight-episode series, Robocop, that will be released exclusively on Prime Video. Since its debut in 1987 with the film directed by Paul Verhoeven, the RoboCop franchise has become a staple in the sci-fi community for multiple decades, and this series marks the fifth TV series in the RoboCop universe.

According to MGM Studios, the plot of the new Robocop series is as followed: “In Robocop, a giant tech conglomerate convinces the city to place a powerful robot on its police force – a robot implanted with the consciousness of a beloved, fallen officer.”

Co-creator and co-writer of the original RoboCop film, Ed Neumeier, will serve as an executive producer alongside James Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett. Danielle Bozzone will serve as co-executive producer. The production has also announced its showrunner and writer.

Who is the Robocop showrunner?

Peter Ocko is set to be an executive producer, showrunner, and writer for the Robocop series. He is known for his work as a producer on shows like Lodge 49, Chasing Daises, and The Office.

In a statement for the press release, Amazon MGM’s Head of Global Television Peter Friedlander said, “Robocop is a franchise that has meant something to audiences for nearly four decades—not just as an action spectacle, but as a sharp, provocative mirror of our relationship with technology and power. Peter Ocko has crafted a vision that honors the soul of what made the original so enduring while building something entirely fresh and urgent for today. Paired with the cinematic sensibility of James Wan and the team at Blumhouse Atomic Monster, we believe this series will captivate a whole new generation of fans on Prime Video.”

When will the new Robocop series premiere on Prime Video?

The official release date for the new Robocop series has not been revealed. However, Prime Video is expected to make an appearance at this year’s San Diego Comic Con so it would not be a stretch to speculate a potential surprise announcement this week. SDCC 2026 is scheduled to run from July 23 to July 26.
