Daredevil BASE jumpers spark Space Needle scare after pulling off illegal stunt

Two thrill-seekers turned Seattle’s iconic Space Needle into their own extreme sports playground — scaling the landmark and parachuting in a wild unauthorized BASE jump.
A video posted to TikTok shows two men climbing over the glass barrier surrounding the Space Needle’s observation deck before launching themselves off the structure around 9:30 p.m. Friday.
The pair, seen wearing helmets and backpacks, appear to scale the walls before standing on the ledge high above the city and making their dramatic escape by parachute.
The stunt quickly went viral, with viewers reacting with a mix of amazement and frustration.
“lol I work at the needle and we’re all talking about it,” one user commented on the video posted by TikTok user .sherpachai.
Others worried the stunt could lead to tighter security measures at the Seattle landmark.
“Great… way to ruin the space needle because now they’ll impose bag searches and it will be more expensive,” another person said.
One parachuter reportedly landed on the roof of the Hyatt hotel on 201 5th Avenue, according to KIRO 7.
Another video posted on TikTok shows the other man landing near the Seattle Center, where the Bite of Seattle food festival was taking place.
“We are aware of an illegal incident at the Seattle Needle and are working closely with the Seattle Police Department. We are reviewing security footage and assisting with the active investigation,” a spokesperson for the Space Needle wrote in an email.
Two BASE jumpers also similarly leaped off from a Seattle building back in 2024.
The jumpers parachuted off the newly built 37-story Graystone building and landed safely before police were able to locate them.
Officials have not announced whether the jumpers have been identified or if they will face any consequences for the dangerous stunt.
