Big East to name influential former MLB executive new commissioner

The Big East has its new leader.
The conference is set to hire former MLB executive Tim Brosnan as the league’s new commissioner, according to ESPN.
He replaces Val Akerman, who retired after the 2026 season following 13 years at the helm.
Brosnan, a Fordham Prep alum who grew up on the Lower East Side, joined MLB in 1991 and was instrumental in the launch of MLB Network and the World Baseball Classic.
He left MLB in 2014 after losing out to Rob Manfred to be the sport’s commissioner to pursue other business ventures.
