After walking in his first career plate appearance, Jacob led off the top of the third inning versus Palm Beach Cardinals’ right-handed pitcher Payton Graham, taking a 1-0 slider deep to left field.

Moments later, George took an 0-2 sweeper from St. Louis right-hander Hunter Dobbins deep to left field.

Not only did the brothers homer to left field in their respective debuts, while facing a team named the Cardinals, but their bombs were nearly identical.

Jacob’s blast had an exit velocity of 99.9 mph with a 33-degree launch angle while George’s left the bat at 100.2 mph — also with a 33-degree launch angle.

“It’s hard to put into words,” Jacob told FishOnFirst’s Nate Karzmer after the game. “That’s pretty ridiculous, I’m jaw-dropped. I don’t even know how it’s possible.”

It capped off a banner night for the Lombard family as Tigers coach George Lombard Sr. and his wife, Judy Lombard, were in attendance in The Bronx to see their son’s memorable debut.

But, if not for George’s late-night call-up on Monday night, they would have been in Florida to see Jacob also go deep in his debut.

“The family was planning on going to watch Jacob down in Jupiter,” Lombard Jr. told reporters at Yankee Stadium. “But my brother was like, ‘You gotta go up there.’

“So plans kind of changed.”

Judy Lombard revealed during a YES Network interview that she had just “bought my tickets” for Jacob’s debut before learning her son, ranked by MLB Pipeline as the Yankees’ top prospect, was getting called up to The Show.

Lombard Jr.’s home run, and some spectacular defensive plays at shortstop, powered the Yankees’ 2-0 win against the Cardinals.

The younger Lombard finished 1-for-4 with the homer as Jupiter won 6-3.

“You don’t ever get these days back,” Lombard Sr. said from his seat in Yankee Stadium. “This was as emotional as any day we’ve had with our boys.”
