CC Sabathia’s son Carsten hits first pro home run with Yankees great in attendance: ‘Super cool moment’
Like father, like son.
CC Sabathia’s son, Carsten Sabathia III, hit the first home run of his professional career on Sunday —and his Hall of Fame dad was there to see it in person.
Playing in his fifth minor league game with the Brewers’ Single-A affiliate Wilson Warbirds, Carsten blasted a 1-2 curveball to left field off Royals farmhand Darwin Rodriguez in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 6-3.
“It’s all smiles in the Sabathia family suite off to our right,” Warbirds broadcaster Ben Mihailovich said after the homer, per MiLB.com.
“CC extending his arms up into the air, super cool moment.”
Carsten’s homer was part of a 3-for-4 day at the plate as the Warbirds came back to win 9-6 versus Columbia at Wilson Ballpark in North Carolina.
Sabathia, who hit three home runs during his 19 MLB seasons, beamed about his son’s first roundtripper on social media.
“Amazing to be here today,” Sabathia wrote in an Instagram comment on a video of the homer.
Carsten, 22, was drafted by the Brewers — one of his dad’s former teams — in the 20th round of this year’s MLB Draft and signed his pro contract on the Yankees legend’s birthday.
The University of Houston product has enjoyed an outstanding start in the minors, slashing an eye-popping .450/.500//1.150 with a homer and five RBIs through his first five contests.
It has been a busy time for Sabathia, beginning with his enshrinement in the Baseball Hall of Fame last summer.
The legendary left-hander was inducted into the Brewers’ Wall of Honor earlier this year to commemorate his dominant 2008 run in Milwaukee.
The Yankees will also retire Sabathia’s No. 52 and immortalize him in Monument Park on Sept. 26.
Sabathia has also worked games for Netflix as a commentator, including last week’s Field of Dreams game between the Phillies and Twins.
After traveling from Iowa to North Carolina to watch his son, Sabathia is confident in Carsten’s baseball future.
“What a blessing,” Sabathia wrote in a Facebook post on Saturday alongside a picture of his Carsten standing in the on-deck circle.
“He got next.”
