Odell Beckham Jr.’s active Giants practice comes with push-up penance

Observations from Giants practice on Monday:

Teaching moment

This was tough love. Coach John Harbaugh and rookie cornerback Colton Hood had an animated conversation after Hood was called for pass interference. Hood pushed back against the call, and Harbaugh was firm that it was the correct call because Hood pushed wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. while the ball was in the air.

“Here’s a young corner that’s going to be playing a lot of football,” Harbaugh said, noting he wasn’t going to let Hood get away with anything. “So, you’ve got to accelerate the pace with that process.”

Picked two pieces

Quarterbacks Jaxson Dart and Jameis Winston threw interceptions on back-to-back plays to end practice. Dart had a pass deflected at the line of scrimmage by Kayvon Thibodeaux and taken the other way by Abdul Carter for a touchdown. Winston was picked off by Ar’Darius Washington.

Caught my eye

It was an active practice for Beckham. The veteran receiver drew a penalty on Hood in the end zone, made a few plays down the field and did pushups in front of the media after looking the wrong way for the ball out of his route.

Injury Report

WR Jalin Hyatt (ankle/leg) and DL Josh Tupou (undisclosed) didn’t practice. Centers John Michael Schmitz (concussion) and Lucas Patrick (knee) and CBs Greg Newsome II (knee), Dru Phillips (knee) and Paulson Adebo (hamstring) were all back in team drills. RB Dante Miller (groin) was waived with an injury designation.
