Vin Diesel chokes back tears in emotional Paul Walker tribute at ‘Fast and Furious’ 25th anniversary screening

“The Fast and the Furious” returned to its LA roots on Monday night, with a special 25th anniversary screening at the Director’s Village Theater — the same spot where the first film premiered in 2001.

Of course with this franchise, the cars are the stars — so the first film’s iconic Dodge Charger and orange Toyota Supra had places of honor in front of the theater.

Spotted in the audience were Tyrese Gibson, a mainstay of the series since 2003’s “2 Fast 2 Furious,” and Meadow Walker, the daughter of late star Paul Walker.

Vin Diesel introduced the film alongside producer Neil H. Moritz and co-stars Jordana Brewster and Michelle Rodriguez.

“I had no idea when she was a Yale student and was cast as my sister, that 25 years later my children would be calling her Auntie Jordana,” Diesel said of Brewster. “And Michelle Rodriguez! I saw her in this movie called ‘Girl Fight.’ And now, 25 years later, she is the godmother of my children.”

“My 91-year-old father flew out here from New York to see this,” Diesel also excitedly told the crowd in a nearly eight-minute speech that praised Universal Pictures and teased the franchise’s final installment, “Fast Forever” — due in theaters on March 17, 2028.

Diesel also choked back tears when he paid an emotional tribute to his beloved co-star Walker, who died in a 2013 crash.

Said Diesel of his late friend and co-star: “Twenty five years ago, I was sitting in this room, and I was sitting with Paul Walker… If any of you should ever have the blessing to have a brother like Pablo, it is the greatest gift God could bestow upon you. So watch this movie, and see where this eternal brotherhood started in every frame.”

But the series’ celebration will continue on, with the opening of a “Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift” ride at Universal Studios this summer.
