‘Toy Story 5’ finally comes to streaming — Here’s how to watch at home

It’s toys vs. tech in the latest installment in the “Toy Story” franchise.

“Toy Story 5” began streaming on VOD platforms like Prime Video today, Aug. 18.

In the new movie, viewers catch up with all of Andy’s beloved toys, now living with Bonnie (Scarlett Spears). Jessie (Joan Cusack) is running things in Bonnie’s room since Woody (Tom Hanks) left at the end of “Toy Story 4,” but Woody is back for this movie, as is Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen).

In school, Bonnie is having trouble making friends, and much to the toys’ dismay, her parents buy her a Lilypad (Greta Lee), a tablet that’s all the rage with kids her age. Lily quickly becomes Bonnie’s favorite toy (and the only one she shows interest in), changing the hierarchy of Bonnie’s room and leaving Jessie to wonder if playtime will ever be the same again.

Along the way, Jessie meets a handful of new toys with built-in tech, including Conan O’Brien’s hilarious Mr. Smartypants.

In his 3.5 (of 4) star review of the “smart, wonderful and tremendously funny” movie, NY Post entertainment critic Johnny Oleksinski wrote, “the digital age gives Pixar’s playthings a renewed sense of purpose and atypically high stakes.”

When will ‘Toy Story 5’ be available to stream?

How to watch ‘Toy Story 5’

“Toy Story 5” is available for digital purchase on Prime Video. The film costs $29.99 to buy or $5.99 to rent.

While you don’t have to be an Amazon Prime member to buy “Toy Story 5,” you will need at least a free Amazon account; that way, you can return to watch “Toy Story 5” whenever you want to.

If you choose the rental option, you’ll have 30 days to begin watching the movie and 48 hours of access once you’ve pressed play.

Prime Video also has the option to bundle all five “Toy Story” movies together digitally. If you purchase now, you’ll get the five films on sale for $69.99 (down from $99.95)

‘Toy Story 5’ Blu-ray release date

While you can stream “Toy Story 5” at home now, some may prefer a physical alternative to owning movies digitally because there’s always the chance that rights may be revoked and you’ll lose that digital access.

Disney and Pixar have confirmed a Sept. 22 release date for the Blu-ray steelbook of “Toy Story 5,” but preorders are not available yet.
