Justin Herbert, Madison Beer pack on the PDA during Chargers’ joint practice with 49ers
Justin Herbert spent Tuesday afternoon trying to escape the San Francisco 49ers’ ferocious pass rush. But after the joint practice, the Los Angeles Chargers quarterback had a considerably more pleasant hand to hold.
Herbert and his fiancée Madison Beer provided another viral training camp moment when the newly engaged couple were filmed strolling hand-in-hand across the field following the Chargers’ joint practice with the 49ers at The Bolt in El Segundo.
For Herbert, who was notoriously private with his relationships throughout his NFL career, these public glimpses into his romance with the pop star have become almost as noticeable as his deep balls down the field.
Herbert and Beer announced their engagement July 28 on Instagram, with the post generating nearly 7 million likes. Since then, the couple hasn’t exactly disappeared behind the powder-blue curtain. Video of Herbert and Beer kissing and packing on the PDA has become a mainstay after Chargers practices.
And they’re hardly alone.
Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart has been photographed with his girlfriend Marissa Ayers. Bengals star Joe Burrow has been spotted on the field with girlfriend Olivia Ponton.
Players having their wives, girlfriends and families at training camp is older than two-a-days, but what has changed in recent years is the camera being pointed at them, the videos going viral, and the influence it’s having on the female audience.
Front Office Sports reported last week that the NFL is intentionally expanding this type of content as part of a broader effort to reach women and younger fans. Senior Vice President of Social and Influencer Marketing for the NFL Ian Trombetta told the outlet the league has highlighted players’ loved ones for years because those moments are “authentic, genuine and relatable.”
Following in the footsteps of the Travis Kelce-Taylor Swift romance that brought an enormous new audience into football’s orbit, nobody should be surprised the NFL recognizes the value of high-profile relationships alongside NFL rivalries.
And when it comes to Herbert and Beer, don’t expect these PDA moments to go away anytime soon.
