Justin Trudeau wields toilet plunger in cringeworthy dance with Katy Perry in hardware store
Now those are some crappy dance moves.
Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau twirled a toilet plunger while busting a move in a Montreal hardware store in a wince-inducing video filmed by his pop star girlfriend Katy Perry.
The impromptu dance-off — in which the former head of state brandished the plunger and other household wares — kicked off when a song by Trudeau’s son, Xavier, played on the radio in the store.
“In the Home Hardware on St-Laurent St,” Trudeau said as he showed off his best dad moves, kicking up his heels and swaying his hips as he waved the plunger around like a band leader’s baton, singing along with the lyrics
Perry, 41, wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses, turned the camera on herself as she nodded her head enthusiastically and clomped around the store like a Clydesdale to the R&B single “Downtown” by Trudeau’s kin, who performs under the name Xav.
“They just popped in randomly by themselves with one security guard who stood in the front,” Kevin Periera, who works at the shop, told the Montreal Gazette.
“They went about their shopping (and) spent about 45 minutes here.”
Some commenters on the Instagram video of the couple dancing, which was shared by Xavier, took the lefty ex-PM to task for tripping the light fantastic after leaving the country in rough economic shape after nine years in office.

“Acting like he didn’t f–k a whole country for years. So out of touch. While Canadians struggle to feed families. I know where you can stick that plunger!” said an irate commenter.
“Justin, do you have to go on embarrassing Canadians. Wasn’t being a WOKE PM enough?” asked another.
One Instagram user praised Xavier while leveling an on-theme knock at the ex-PM.
“Good on your son’s achievement Justin it’s unfortunate you put Canada in the crapper.”
Trudeau resigned in 2025 after an internal revolt by the country’s Liberal Party and public approval ratings firmly in the toilet.
Perry and Trudeau, who separated from his wife of 18 years Sophie Grégoire Trudeau in 2023, made their public debut as a couple last October.
The famous pair have faced criticism for their antics before.
Last December, Perry took heat for wearing a cropped blazer and miniskirt over black stockings and boots in a photo op with former Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and his conservatively dressed wife, Yuko, in front of the couple’s Christmas tree, with some fans viewing the outfit inappropriate for the occasion.
The eco-warrior pair also got called out for hypocrisy in April when they were spotted drinking from plastic cups at Coachella — despite Trudeau banning single-use plastics while in office.
