Shedeur Sanders called out by Bills agitator in brutal dig during fight for Browns’ starting QB role

Shedeur Sanders was getting chirped at from the opposing sideline during a joint practice Thursday.

The lightning-rod Browns signal-caller, who fell to the sixth round after previously expecting to be a top-10 pick, was hearing it from Bills safety CJ Gardner-Johnson.

Gardner-Johnson, who was not practicing, reportedly called Sanders a “check-down king” during practice as the former Colorado star split first-team reps with disgraced ex-MVP candidate Deshaun Watson.

Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN reported that he heard another Bills defender yelling, “This s–t check-down city!”

Although the Bills might be talking a little smack just to get under Sanders’ skin, as Gardner-Johnson was not participating while Sanders, by most accounts, was looking spry during the joint practice.

Browns reporter Scott Petrak of The Chronicle-Telegram posted a video of Sanders slicing the Buffalo defense on a downfield 50-yard pass to Malachi Corley that appeared to result in a touchdown, though it’s unclear if he was stopped at the goal line.

ESPN tracked Sanders as completing 13 of 23 passes with no touchdowns – though other reports show Sanders having thrown the touchdown to Corley and another to rookie K.C. Concepcion.

Watson supposedly went 12 of 17 with one touchdown and one interception in his stint.

Expect emotions to run high as Cleveland hosts the Bills on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET, with both teams looking to figure things out in their main dress rehearsal before the regular season begins.

For the Browns, they still need to figure out their quarterback situation and Saturday could go a long way toward deciding their plans at the most important position on the field.
