Andrey Rublev wasn’t in the mood to talk.

The Russian tennis star, approached for a mid-match interview alongside mixed doubles partner Mirra Andreeva, waved off ESPN’s Sam Querrey in an awkward US Open scene caught on camera on Wednesday.

“Mirra, great comeback in set No. 2,” Querrey said as Rublev appeared to vehemently object. “No questions? Sorry, sorry. Good luck.”

Rublev and Andreeva were ousted by Czech duo Jakub Mensik and Karolina Muchova in their semifinal, 4-5, 5-3, 9-11.

After the loss, the 28-year-old Rublev approached Querrey, a former pro, and apologized, to which Querrey was reportedly overheard saying, “Don’t worry about it.”

It wasn’t the first awkwardness of the tournament for Rublev, who was on the receiving end of a on-court reveal from his 19-year-old running mate on Tuesday.

“I’ve never said anything, I’ve never told him anything as well, but I used to have a little crush on him as well,” Andreeva said during an interview after they’d defeated Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori.

“I mean, first of all, his hair, OK?” she explained of the fiery, redheaded countryman. “So many interviews I saw and so many things that I heard from other people, I just knew he’s a great person. I didn’t know him at that time yet. I don’t know, I just feel like he’s super kind, very nice with everyone. Again, the hair. I don’t know, everyone said that every time he would step on court, he would look tired. I don’t know, he was looking great every time for me.”

Rublev, caught off-guard, deflected.

“You know [these] typical moments when the kids, they don’t have taste yet, they need to try some stupid things before they start to have it?” he said. “I was in the part of stupid thing, in the transition moment.”

Rublev, the men’s No. 24-ranked singles player, is slated to face Croatia’s Marin Cilic in the first round of the tournament — no telling if he’ll be up for any more interviews at this point.
