There’s an old adage about taking one step forward and two steps back; in Leanne on Netflix, that turn of phrase comes to life as Leanne Morgan’s mostly-fictional character finds herself thriving (well, more like doing slightly better than she was in Season 1) only to end up in the salon chair begging for bangs in the final episode of Season 2. 

While she may start the season with a handsome beau (Tim Daly) and reach the middle of the new block of episodes by regressing and suddenly getting the hots for her ex-husband (Ryan Stiles), the second season of the comedy series ends with Leanne seemingly having found some sense of inner peace after a tumultuous year. That comes as Stiles’ character finds himself now in a similar situation to the position he put his ex in a year ago when he left her for another woman.

As for what that final moment in the salon between Bill and hairdresser Kimi (Jaime Pressly) means? Well, Morgan says viewers probably don’t need to look too deep into his tearful confession that his life sucks. In short: it probably doesn’t mean a reconciliation is on the horizon for these two, but rather, their shared history will continue to make ripples in the series.

“Bill, he’s always gonna be hanging around,” Morgan jokes in a chat with DECIDER. “You know, I do think if something catastrophic, God forbid, happened like that in your life and you’d been married to somebody for 30-something years and you’ve got grandbabies and children together, I think they’ve hit it [head on] like, Bill’s always around and is gonna be a part of Leanne’s life because they’re so intertwined for so long. You can’t help it, even if they’re not together.”

That said, she’s not ruling out the idea that these two could explore some type of additional relationship, romantic or otherwise, in future seasons. But Morgan has her own hopes for where the story goes after having her character turn down a proposal from Andrew (Daly) and taking her through the first real period of singlehood in a long while. While she certainly finds it fun to get to find the truth of her character, she also just wants to keep being a single gal who is having as much fun as possible on TV.

“I hope whatever happens with Bill, if something, if that’s over, honey, I hope Leanne’s still dating. In real life, if something — God forbid, if Chuck Morgan left me — I’d be dating, honey. I’ve loved men all my life. And I’m telling you, Tim Daly’s got his own sitcom coming on NBC, but he can still be my boyfriend [on the show],” she adds.

Daly is about to star in his own sitcom called Newlyweds with Téa Leoni, his real-life wife, with the series premiering on NBC in October. Morgan says she thinks there’s still plenty of time and resources to ensure that he can get from one set to another if they so happen to get a third season and Andrew makes a return.

“It made me mad,” she says of finding out Daly would be starring in a multi-cam comedy of his own, “But then I thought, ‘They better let my boyfriend come back to me, honey, because he’s my boyfriend!’”

Who knows what will happen next for TV’s most eligible Southerner, but hopefully we will find out soon!

Will There Be a Leanne Season 3?

As of right now, Netflix has not renewed the series for another season. As far as we’re concerned, there are a few big things working in the show’s favor when it comes to the concept of a Leanne Season 3; not only was Leanne a smash hit in its first season, racking up more than 1 billion minutes streamed in the first six weeks, she show is relatively inexpensive to make given its fixed sets and multi-cam setup. Certain factors can make a show more expensive (i.e. Morgan is probably taking home a decent paycheck!), but we have to guess the show’s overall budget is a fraction of a Stranger Things or Squid Game.

We’ll just have to wait and see if Netflix opts to give the show another season. Our best guess is that we’ll probably know by the end of the year if a Season 3 is on its way!
