Josh Jacobs will now be away from the Packers as his off-field charges continue to be investigated.

He was placed on the commissioner’s exempt list on Sunday, according to multiple reports.

The 28-year-old running back won’t be allowed to practice or play for the Packers while he is on the list, though he will still get paid.

Jacobs was charged with misdemeanor battery and misdemeanor criminal damage to property by the Brown County (Wis.) district attorney this past week stemming from an incident with his girlfriend in May.

He is alleged to have grabbed his girlfriend and thrown her to the ground at his Wisconsin home, causing her to hit her head.

The heated spat allegedly stemmed from Jacobs’ girlfriend accusing him of “talking to other girls,” according to the court filing.

The alleged incident was captured by surveillance footage, a prosecutor said.

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said this past week that he “fully anticipates him being a member of your team” despite the charges.

He is not due in court until Nov. 17.

The NFL can still decide to suspend him.

“Josh Jacobs has been placed on the Commissioner’s Exempt List, which is an administrative procedure used by the NFL while a matter is being reviewed,” Jacobs’ attorneys said in a statement. “It is not a final determination.  Josh respects the NFL process, the Packers, and his Coaches and Teammates. He looks forward to his return to the team and the NFL.”

Amid the league’s decision, the Packers are in the process of trading for running back Kaleb Johnson from the Steelers, according to multiple reports.

Jacobs, who is entering his third season with the Packers after spending his first five years in the league with the Raiders, accumulated 1,211 yards from scrimmage and 14 total touchdowns last year.

In 2022, he led the NFL with 1,653 rushing yards, and he’s surpassed 1,000 rushing yards four times in his career.

Johnson, whom the Steelers drafted in the third round in 2025, saw minimal playing time as a rookie last season.
