Bears GM not sure if $40 million star Kyler Gordon will play at all this season in injury mystery
The Bears have “hope” that one of the key pieces to their defensive backs corps will play again.
But there are apparently no guarantees.
Kyler Gordon missed spring practices and all of training camp with a calf injury, and general manager Ryan Poles spoke Tuesday about the defensive back’s status, saying he’s not sure if or when Gordon will return.
Gordon is on the physically unable to perform list, meaning he will miss at least the first four games of the year.
“I don’t know,” Poles said when asked if Gordon would play for the Bears again. “I would hope so. I still have hope there. He’s going to have to continue to work hard and come back to play football again.”
Gordon, a second-round pick in 2022, burst onto the scene with three interceptions during his rookie year and two more the following season.
He started in 13 games in 2024 and signed a three-year, $40 million contract extension ahead of 2025.
But Gordon suited up in just three contests total last season thanks to groin and calf injuries, though he did play in both of Chicago’s playoff games.
Poles did not go further into the nature of Gordon’s injury and why he hasn’t been able to get back onto the field yet, though he did say the 26-year-old has been “working.”
Though he did say he could not go into specifics about the nature of the injury.
“Some of these guys they also have other people that they work with too,” Poles said. “But yeah, he’s working. … We’re not progressing as fast as we’d like. That’s really all I have to say.”

Chicago ranked 22nd in pass yards allowed (227.2 yards per game) last year, which was mostly without Gordon.
The Bears will hope, whether Gordon plays again or not, to see an improvement in that area.
