A Russian Mi-8 helicopter was forced to make a crash-landing on the highway after allegedly running out of fuel, forcing it into a roadside ditch as its propellers chopped down nearby trees.

Footage uploaded to social media by war-time bloggers shows how the chopper raced along a road in Sakhalin Island in far northeast Russia as it attempted to make a landing.

As vehicles on the highway quickly got out of the way, the chopper skidded into a ditch beside the road, with its propellers sending branches and debris flying before it came to a complete stop.
