The Jets announced their six captains for the 2026 season, as selected by their teammates. 

Quarterback Geno Smith, guard Joe Tippmann, linebacker Demario Davis, safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, defensive tackle Harrison Phillips and wide receiver/punt returner Isaiah Williams all were picked. 

Davis, Smith and Fitzpatrick are all new to the Jets this season, but all were acquired in part because they are veterans who can provide leadership for the team.

The only surprise was that none of the players who were captains last year were chosen again this year.

Wide receiver Garrett Wilson, linebacker Jamien Sherwood and special teams ace Marcelino McCrary-Ball all served as captains in 2025.

Wilson is the biggest name and it is somewhat surprising that he and Breece Hall, widely considered the two best players on the team, were not chosen as captains. 

Davis was an eight-time captain with the Saints and is viewed as one of the best leaders in the NFL. The Jets hope he can be an integral part of them turning the team around.

This is Davis’ third stint with the team that drafted him in 2012.
