Rep. Lauren Boebert’s son Tyler Boebert will spend at least 20 nights behind bars for letting his toddler son wander outside unsupervised — despite the Republican congresswoman begging for “mercy” on her embattled son. 

Tyler Boebert, 21, was slapped with jail time but given work release privileges after pleading guilty to misdemeanor child abuse without injury stemming from a July 2025 incident in which his young son was found roaming outside the politician’s Windsor home, according to Courthouse News Service. 

It was just one of three times the tyke was found wandering unsupervised in 2025 – including once near a busy road and another time by a body of water, Deputy District Attorney Brice Rudolph said during Tyler Boebert’s sentencing hearing in Weld County on Friday, the outlet reported. 

“Once is a mistake, twice is a coincidence, and three times is a pattern,” Rudolph told the court. 

Tyler Boebert, who became a dad at 17, was charged with another count of child abuse in February after his then 2-year-old son was once again found roaming unsupervised around Lauren Boebert’s house. That charge was later dropped, his defense attorney, Joseph Gavaldon, said Friday.  

During the sentencing hearing, Lauren Boebert pleaded with the judge to spare her son from jail.

“Mercy here, your honor, is not softness. Mercy is the difference between correcting the father and orphaning a child for the hours that matter most,” she said. 

“I want to talk to you about what kind of father my son is. He works and comes home. That is not a talking point. He is not a troubled man drifting through life,” the MAGA-supporting congresswoman continued. 

“The actions before you are not acts of cruelty. It’s a failure of communication.”

Gavaldon likewise portrayed Tyler Boebert as a doting father, telling the court he even installed locks and cameras around his own home in order to prevent the boy from escaping. 

The attorney also wildly described the tot as a “Houdini” going through a “Lewis and Clark” phase of adolescence. 

Tyler declined to address the court. 

Judge Michele Meyer expressed concern over the recurring nature of the incidents, but stopped short of hitting him with the maximum sentence of 30 days in jail. 

“It appears as though Mr. Boebert has taken this seriously, but I can’t ignore the fact that these are two incidents that put his son in serious harm’s way,” she said. “Thankfully, nothing happened.”

Meyer also sentenced him to 12 months of probation, according to Fox 8 News. 

Gavaldon, Lauren Boebert and the Weld County District Attorney’s Office did not immediately respond to inquiries.

The eldest of Lauren Boebert and her ex-husband Jayson’s four sons has a lengthy history of run-ins with the law. 

He was arrested just last month on sexual exploitation of a child and multiple other charges, the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office said.

The charges reportedly stem from an alleged sex tape he filmed in early 2024, when Tyler would have been 18, with his then-girlfriend, who was 17 at the time. She contacted police after the video was leaked, according to TMZ.

“I love my son,” Rep. Boebert said in a statement after his arrest in that case. 

“We take these allegations very seriously and pray for everyone affected during this challenging time,” the congresswoman added. 

Tyler Boebert was freed from county jail after posting a $10,000 bond.

In 2024, he was slapped with 22 criminal charges, including five felonies, following a string of alleged thefts in Colorado.

In October of that year, Tyler Boebert pleaded guilty to one count of attempted identity theft and the remaining charges were dismissed. The plea agreement included a two year deferred judgement and he was ordered to complete 80 hours of community service.
