When Josh Jacobs pleaded no contest to two misdemeanor charges this week, the presiding judge signed an order temporarily sealing the evidence in the case, at the running back’s request.

The charges are stemming from an incident in May, when the Packers starter was arrested on multiple charges, including strangulation and suffocation, and battery-domestic abuse of his girlfriend.

Jacobs, a three-time Pro Bowl running back, may not be cleared to return to the field until the NFL gets a look at it. 

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the league is “trying all sorts of legal maneuvers” to see the video of the incident, which was recorded by surveillance cameras in Jacobs’ home.

Jacobs is scheduled to meet with the league as part of its review for violating the Personal Conduct Policy.

Jacobs — whose plea deal was for battery and criminal damage to property — will not be permitted to play or practice until he is removed from the commissioner’s exempt list.

Prosecutors who viewed the video claim it corroborates “relevant portions” of the victim’s statement. 

In 2014, Ray Rice’s career came to a sudden end after surveillance video was released of the former Ravens running back assaulting his wife in an Atlantic City casino.

In 2018, running back Kareem Hunt was captured assaulting a woman in a hotel, leading to his release by the Chiefs.

Jacobs led the Packers with 929 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns last season. 

The Packers, meanwhile, will open their 2026 campaign in Minnesota to take on the rival Vikings during Week 1.
