Jacoby Brissett left SoFi Stadium with a victory and an extra $285,000.

The Chargers supplied the occasion. The Cardinals supplied the check.

Brissett earned the bonus by playing at least 50 percent of Arizona’s offensive snaps in its 26-14 victory Sunday. The same clause will pay him $285,000 for each Cardinals win, up to 10, putting a potential $2.85 million within reach.

It ranks among the NFL’s richer per-win incentives. Nick Foles could collect as much as $500,000 for a qualifying Eagles victory, while Daniel Jones received $100,000 for each qualifying Colts win in 2025. Brissett’s arrangement stands out because Arizona can trigger it 10 times.

But this first payout arrived against considerable expectations.

Arizona entered the season with an over-under win total of only 3.5 before dismantling the largest favorite of Week 1. The Chargers closed as 9½-point favorites but were out-gained 393-268 and possessed the ball for 15 fewer minutes.

Brissett completed 27 of 37 passes for 277 yards and one touchdown without an interception, producing a 103.1 passer rating.

Los Angeles relied heavily on zone coverage, and Brissett repeatedly found its openings. He completed 20 of 27 attempts for 203 yards against zone looks, distributing the ball and releasing it before the pass rush could become disruptive.

Arizona’s defense and special teams supplied the exclamation points. Simi Fehoko blocked a fourth-quarter punt, giving the Cardinals possession at the Chargers’ 3-yard line before Brissett found Trey McBride for a touchdown. Andrew Wingard intercepted Justin Herbert on Los Angeles’ next possession.

“A great game in all three phases,” Brissett said. “On the road, tough environment — it’s what you ask for.”

The payday came from the reworked one-year contract Brissett secured after representing himself in negotiations. Arizona guaranteed him $15.5 million and included incentives capable of pushing its total value to $21 million.

Brissett can earn another $1.25 million by throwing 24 touchdowns and $1.4 million by reaching 3,500 passing yards. Last season, he finished only one touchdown and 134 yards short of those marks.

The Cardinals finally treated Brissett like a planned starter. One game into the arrangement, the investment is already paying off for both sides.
