Preliminary magnitude-3.1 earthquake rattles southern LA County

A 3.1-magnitude earthquake rattled the Los Angeles area Thursday afternoon.
The tremor struck at 1:32 p.m., with its epicenter about 2.5 miles southeast of Compton.
It comes after another 3.2-magnitude quake struck overnight on September 6 near the same city at eight miles below the surface.
Thursday’s earthquake was felt as far away as Long Beach, Downey and Paramount, according to the USGS.
