Chargers’ Ladd McConkey concern grows that star WR could miss Raiders game

The likelihood of Ladd McConkey playing in the Los Angeles Chargers’ Week 2 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders is starting to grow concerning.

For the second day in a row, McConkey was not a participant during the Chargers’ practice on Thursday and was seen off to the side, working with a team trainer.

McConkey is currently working his way back to the football field following a rib injury he suffered in the third quarter during Sunday’s 26-14 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

On Monday, it was revealed per Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh that McConkey is considered “day-to-day” following the injury.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter added that the team wants to see how he feels before determining his eligibility.

Offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel was asked about the challenges of not having McConkey at practice for two days in a row and said it will be an “important week for the entire group whether Ladd plays or not.”

“The way we approach it is, you always do worst-case scenarios, but even best-case scenarios,” McDaniel said. “I need to give guys more opportunities in that room, and guys need to seize the opportunities that are very capable players that I am really excited about.”

Earlier this week, the Chargers brought in Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling for a workout and later signed him to the practice squad.

If McConkey is out, Valdes-Scantling could be one of those players McDaniel mentioned who could have an opportunity to play on Sunday.
