If you haven’t noticed, red light therapy is all the rage, with facial masks leading the charge. 

It makes sense. Light therapy (or photobiomodulation) has been clinically shown to have a wide range of benefits, including wrinkle reduction and improved skin texture. And a mask, which can be used hands-free on a couch or bed, is much easier to use than a wand or some other device that requires you to stay near an outlet or mildly electrocute your face.

There are a lot of options on the market, but one that thousands recommend (more than 600,000, to be more specific) is iRestore. And I happen to be one of them.

The moment I read the specs on its Illumina Face Mask, I knew it was different from other popular LED light therapy masks. The world’s first LED face mask to use triple wavelengths simultaneously, users could target multiple skin concerns at once instead of doubling up on treatments.

I loved it from the first use. It was flexible without being flimsy, with two adjustable straps and a larger eye window so I could easily watch TV or read while using it. It was lightweight and had 360 medical-grade LEDs, so my entire face was being treated. I started seeing an improvement in my skin in less than a month of use — I didn’t want to review other light therapy masks after that. 

Now the brand has a new model, the Laser Face Mask Pro, and from what I’m reading about the technology, it may be even better than the Illumina.

If you know anything about red light therapy masks, you know that many only use two or three wavelengths — I’m not being shady, just stating the facts. The iRestore Laser Face Mask Pro sets itself apart by offering eight, so users can experience the full spectrum of light therapy treatments in one device.

There are five modes to choose from, each combining different therapies, so you can address multiple skin issues or goals at once. Treatment time (10 minutes) is still the same, and now you don’t have to choose between doing an anti-aging treatment or helping to clear & prevent acne breakouts.

Beyond the light modes, the mask also uses VIXO lasers (660/850nm) to penetrate the skin for targeted energy delivery. Combined with LEDs and the various wavelengths, you’ll get a broader, deeper treatment to visibly smooth fine lines, fight dark spots, and promote firmer, younger-looking skin. Results are generally seen in about eight to12 weeks (individual results vary).

The Laser Face Mask Pro Modes

As someone who loves a laser, I’m excited by the idea of a device that combines the power of light therapy with another non-invasive, effective skincare treatment. But I’m also intrigued by the idea that I can experience two to five treatments at one time.

No matter what mode you select, you’ll still only have to wear the mask for 10 minutes. I spend longer showering every day, so I wouldn’t call that much of a time commitment.

Design & Ease of Use

Now, I’ve tried a lot of these devices (have I already said that?) and another area where most fall short — including the most popular ones — is how heavy and stiff they are. I won’t name names, but while a lot of these brands say you can use a mask while doing other things, you absolutely can’t.

Many are too heavy or don’t stay on properly. Some are not comfortable, leaving indentations on the skin because their fit is too tight. The iRestore Laser Face Mask Pro is designed to be the opposite, made from premium, flexible material that doesn’t fade or warp. It’s adjustable and meant to fit a variety of face shapes and sizes, so there’s no need to worry about it being snug or leaving bruise marks. (Yep, that’s happened to me.)

Like the Illumina, the pro mask also features a larger-than-average window for the eyes. This not only makes it possible to easily see while wearing the mask, but also provides better protection. A slit down the center offers better ventilation, and if you’ve worn one of these devices, you know they can make you feel claustrophobic after a certain point, so this is a really nice feature.

While I’ll keep my final verdict until I have time to test this new mask myself, I’m lit up over its potential. We lose collagen with age, and at this point in my life, I’m holding on to mine like one clutches their wallet on the subway. Will this mask make me forget my Illumina? Can’t say yet. I can say that if it does, I’ll give it a glowing review.
