Paramount’s hit espionage drama Lioness featured a sweet tribute to late series producer Rajeev Malhotra in Season 3, Episode 8 entitled “The Unraveling.”

Lioness Season 3, Episode 8 entitled “The Unraveling” followed a relentless Joe McNamara (Zoe Saldaña) as she risks the lives of her QRF team members, Tex (Jonah Wharton) and Randy (Austin Herbert), to find out who ordered her abduction. After receiving valuable intel from Alex (Sandi Todorovic), an imprisoned Belarusian contractor, Joe determines that double agent Oleksandra Balakin (Elizaveta Neretin) and Ukraine had no involvement in her kidnapping. Unfortunately, Balakin is murdered by Delta Force operators Cody J (Matt Gerald) and Grady (Ian Bohen) before McNamara reaches her conclusion. The final scene of the Season 3 finale reveals that it is Aaliyah Amrohi (Stephanie Nur), the daughter of the terrorist financier that was assassinated by Cruz Manuelos (Laysla De Oliveira) in the Season 1 finale, who orchestrated Joe’s abduction in her quest for revenge.

Before the end credits roll, a touching tribute card appears on-screen to the series’ late producer, Rajeev Malhotra. The dedication reads: “This episode is dedicated to the memory of Rajeev Malhotra with the deepest appreciation for his tireless commitment and unwavering support. You will be missed, my friend.”

Malhotra was a producer on Lioness Seasons 2 and 3. According to a GoFundMe created to support Malhorta’s partner, Catherine Jordan, Rajeev “passed peacefully on July 28 at 1:17pm at Cedars Sinai Cardiac ICU, surrounded by his father, who is 94, his brother, his nephew, two cousins, Catherine, and Chad Galster.”

Malhotra was clearly a beloved and trusted collaborator of Taylor Sheridan and the production company, 101 Studios. In addition to Lioness, Malhorta also served as a producer on The Madison, Landman, and 1923. He was also a co-producer on Yellowstone and 1883. The GoFundMe also noted that Malhorta “will be greatly missed by a multitude of colleagues, more than 20 of whom showed up at the hospital to see him in his final 2 days.”

What Happened To Rajeev Malhorta?

According to an Instagram post by producer David Derks, Malhotra passed away following a heart attack. “From what I was told, he became very ill last week but, true to his character, he pushed through one of the relentless production schedules that television demands to make sure episodes were delivered,” wrote Derks. “After going to Cedars-Sinai, doctors discovered he had suffered a heart attack. A few days later, he was gone.”

The talented Malhotra dedicated the latter part of his life to working within Sheridan’s vast universe and collaborating with a committed group of storytellers.
