I can’t imagine why millionaire parents Nikole and Faraji Hannah-Jones would send their 5-year-old child to a failing New York City public school for a social-justice experiment (“Reality bites leftist,” Sept. 23).

Their daughter has every right to be mad after eight years of a selfish failed trial like this.

Sacrificing your child’s education in the name of bringing attention to the failing (union-run) public schools is dumb.

They should’ve sent her to a charter school where she could’ve gotten a better education.

Hannah-Jones is right that New York City’s bastardized mash-up of “school choice” perpetuates segregation and insanity.

But her article misses the fact that there is a much better solution than sending one’s daughter to schools that would disserve her: Empowering every family — not just those with financial means — to exercise real school choice.

The path to real equity involves allowing $10,000 or more in state or federal tax money to follow every child to an excellent school of their choosing.

This is the law in Texas and a growing number of other states — and that is no accident.

Hannah-Jones should join the chorus demanding such scholarships in New York.

As she admitted in her article, she has the means to change course for her daughter — and she did.

How many more decades should those who do not have to wait?
