The Commanders got better news on their franchise quarterback than the Giants did.

Washington does not plan to put Jayden Daniels on injured reserve and does not think he needs surgery after dislocating his elbow, general manager Adam Peters said Friday.

“He met with doctors all over the country. We got a lot of good opinions. As of right now, surgery is not on the table and we haven’t discussed IR,” Peters said on 106.7 The Fan.

That means the Commanders likely expect Daniels, who dealt with a similar injury last season, to be back within a month.

The Commanders said the plan was to meet with specialists and then to decide a course of action after Daniels was forced out of Sunday’s 37-20 loss to the Cowboys with the gruesome-looking ailment.

Ian Rapaport added that Daniels is week-to-week with the injury, confirming the sentiment from Peters.

Last season, after he went down in Week 9 with the same injury, Daniels was out a little over a month and missed three games with a bye week sandwiched between.

The Commanders — as they did last season — with now turn to veteran Marcus Mariota, starting with a home matchup against the defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks on Sunday.

It is a crucial game with Washington starting the season with back-to-back losses against the NFC East rival Eagles and Cowboys.

The 32-year-old Mariota completed 11 of 16 passes for 111 yards and a touchdown against Dallas after taking over in the second half.

He played in 11 games for Washington last season with Daniels dealing with a number of injuries that have at least temporarily derailed a promising career after the former LSU star led the Commanders to the NFC Championship game in his rookie season.

After their matchup with the Seahawks, the Commanders take on, in order, the Colts, the Jaxson Dart-less Giants and 49ers before a Week 7 bye.

By not placing Daniels on injured reserve, the team is indicating it expects he will be back no later than the Week 6 “Monday Night Football” road clash against San Francisco.
