Good luck, AOC

It’s quite a choice whether Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez runs for president or Senate (“AO-wait-and-see,” Sept. 21).

She has confused economists John Maynard Keynes and Milton Friedman, obfuscates Hamas terrorists with protesters and was baffled by a question about the defense of Taiwan at the Munich Security Conference.

Otherwise, she seems to focus on prancing around with Sen. Bernie “Three Homes” Sanders and the odious Hasan Piker.

I wish her well with her post-2028 career . . . in the private sector. It will likely feature a lucrative lecture circuit, a best-selling book and seasons of Met Galas where she can bash Israel’s right to exist while “abhorring” antisemitism.

Mugged by reality

Rich Lowry quotes a famous line as: “A neo-conservative is a liberal mugged by reality”; that is wrong (“Ideology Before Kids,” PostOpinion, Sept. 22).  

“Mugged by reality” is silly.

The real saying is, “A conservative is a liberal that just got mugged” — meant literally.

Absentee parents    

Why does The Post consistently lambast teachers for the low reading and math scores of our kids (“Power Players,” Ken Girardin, PostOpinion, Sept. 21)? 

Why is firing teachers and promoting charter schools the only solution? Why never discuss absentee parents who fail to supervise their children or help them with homework? 

What The Post further fails to point out is that charter schools cherry-pick the best students, and that the chronic absence of students is an issue that staff can’t control. 

Volumes of research have actually shown that parents are more important in kids’ academic development than teachers. Where are the parents?

More immigration

Now that we’ve nearly halted immigration, the United States is going down the drain (“Don-backed GOPer rips him on immigs,” Sept. 19). 

Immigrants founded thousands of US companies and children of immigrants head thousands more; the United States will see its world position decline without more immigration. 

Current bad immigration practices must cease. The best and brightest around the world (who admire America) know who they are and must be vetted and brought in legally.

Save the chickens

Over 200 chickens were found in horrendous conditions  — many of them dead — after a Kaporos ritual that left the streets of Brooklyn stained with blood, feces, urine and other parts of dead birds (“B’klyn chicken horror discovery,” Sept. 20). 

What’s more unbelievable is that people still participate in this dark-age ceremony that leaves dead chickens on the streets — and that New York City allows it.

Cheer for Alonso

It’s going too far to criticize any Mets fan for cheering on Pete Alonso after his 300th home run (“Care bear,” Sept. 15).

It was his homecoming. The Mets wouldn’t give Alonso the five-year contract which I think he was well worth, and the Orioles did. 

The Mets operations staff disrespected him with that short contract, yet he continues to behave professionally. And it’s not like he joined the despised division rivals Braves or Phillies.
