A Different World has captured the hearts of Netflix subscribers.

The new addition to the streamer, which is a sequel series to the original A Different World series that debuted on NBC in 1987, is currently sitting in the No. 1 spot in Netflix’s Top 10 TV Shows in the U.S. list. The new iteration of the series follows Whitley (Jasmine Guy) and Dwayne’s (Kadeem Hardison) youngest daughter Deborah (Maleah Joi Moon), who is paving her way at Hillman College.

Among the other original series stars that appear in the A Different World reboot alongside Guy and Hardison are Cree Summer, Darryl M. Bell, Debbie Allen, Jada Pinkett Smith, Joe Morton, and Dawnn Lewis.

DECIDER contributor Joel Keller recommended the series in his A Different World review, writing, “The new version of A Different World holds a lot of promise as a view of what life is like at an HBCU in 2026. And, while we like spending time with our favorite Hillman alumni and see what they’re doing 33 years after the original series ended, the series will be better served concentrating on the current students.”

Will There Be A Season 2 of A Different World?

As of now, Netflix’s A Different World has yet to be renewed for a second season. However, there is still hope! The series just debuted last Thursday (Sept. 24) and is already in the streamer’s Top 10, meaning a Season 2 renewal is still possible.
