Just what is the antisemitism that Mayor Zohran Mamdani plans to oppose? He won’t say.

And Mamdani’s allies have Sen. Chuck Schumer so cowed that he no longer dares spell out the fact that obsessive “anti-Zionism” plainly is a form of Jew-hate.

The mayor on Tuesday declined to do a live press conference to announce his new “anti-antisemitism” drive, instead dropping a two-minute video that avoided any awkward questions about exactly what he’s against, let along queries about why the plan’s so pathetic.

He’ll fund more “hate-crime prevention” and help pay for security upgrades at religious centers (not just the Jewish ones that most need it, of course).

But God forbid our Israel-hating mayor mention that “anti-Zionism” is central to the recent waves of violent antisemitism he claims he wants stopped.

Points to state Sen. Liz Krueger for calling out the obvious: The mayor needs to “make clear through words and actions” that all Jews, including Zionists, deserve security against “threats, harassment or violence.”

Schumer just a year ago still dared to publicly declare that anti-Zionism — denying Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish homeland — is textbook antisemitism; sadly, he’s now sending Democratic campaign funds to help elect Abdul El-Sayed to the US Senate, even though the Michigander is even less coy than Mamdani about wanting no live Jews “between the river and the sea.”

The mayor knows he needs to convince non-extremists that he really opposes crude antisemitism, which means he needs to wave in that direction even if he won’t say what antisemitism is.

One of his first acts in office was nixing Mayor Eric Adams’ executive order adopting the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance definition of antisemitism; another was axing the prohibition on city agencies and personnel joining in boycotts of Israel. 

The mayor can shout out Katz’s Deli all he wants; he still supports the odious anti-Israel boycott, divestment and sanctions campaign and promotes the “genocide” Big Lie.

His “anti-antisemitism” gestures are boob-bait for the bourgeoisie; he’s plainly pleased to be driving the Democratic Party into outright opposition to Israel and all non-self-hating Jews.

It’s too bad Schumer and other Dem leaders are staying mum about it — putting power for the party above so basic a question of right and wrong.
