Pittsburgh high school football interview ended by gunshots in chilling scene
A postgame Pittsburgh high school football interview was cut short by gunshots Thursday night.
Players from Westinghouse Academy were sent scurrying in the middle of an interview on Point 22 after their 35-0 win over University Prep in a chilling scene at George K. Cupples Stadium.
They visibly snapped their heads toward the noise, with one exclaiming, “Oh!,” as other players behind them on the field ran off in search of cover.
Two males and a female, believed to be teens, were hospitalized with gunshot wounds and are in stable condition, with police still searching for the gunman.
“As the game ended, there was a large crowd out here on Carson Street. A couple of fights broke out. We had multiple officers from the city and Port Authority that were on the scene, helping to just facilitate people safely getting out, breaking up a couple fights, when suddenly, an individual pulled out a firearm and fired multiple rounds,” Pittsburgh police chief Jason Lando said.
Security personnel locked down the stadium, which featured a large police presence and metal detectors, Lando added.
Officers were trying to break up a fight at the time of the shooting.
Police are not certain if the shooter attended the game.

“Our thoughts are with the young people who were injured, their families, and all of the students, staff and community members impacted by this deeply troubling incident,” Pittsburgh Public Schools said in a release Friday morning.
