The flydubai 1073 hijacking: Letters to the Editor — Oct. 3, 2026

The Issue: A co-pilot stabbing the captain on a Israel-bound flight before passengers stepped in to fight back.

After 9/11, we bolted the door so a hijacker could not get in. But on Flydubai Flight 1073, the threat was already in the left seat (“Heroic Flight and Fight,” Oct. 1).

The co-pilot stabbed the captain and pointed a 737 full of Israelis at the ground. The last line of defense was passengers storming the cockpit, tying a man to the floor and handing the airplane to two pilots riding in back.

The Abraham Accords opened the sky. Someone still put a crewman from a country with no ties to Israel on a Tel Aviv-bound flight and called it a normal day. Praise the civilians, then ask who handed him the controls.

A repeat of innocent flight passengers killed by terrorism was miraculously prevented due to those who are stronger and braver than they realize.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s strong words immediately come to mind: “We are going to win. We have no other choice.” Those words apply to all of us.

On July 4, 1976, Israel rescued 102 people whose Air France flight had been hijacked and who were being held hostage by Palestinian and German terrorists in Uganda. It was a bicentennial gift to America and a lesson for the world on combatting terrorism.

Fifty years later, between the anniversaries of the 9/11 and Oct. 7 terrorist attacks, Israelis pulled off another miracle on the eagle’s wings.

When a terrorist co-pilot stabbed the captain and attempted to hijack and crash a Flydubai plane with 174 passengers and crew aboard, Israeli passengers rushed into the cabin, took back the plane and provided life-saving first aid to the heroic original pilot.

Israel faces more threats than any other country on earth. Fortunately, it is a nation of truly remarkable people.

I’m sure the Israel-hating media will soon report their version of the attempted crashing of the Israel-bound airliner.

They will say it’s another example of a genocidal Israeli mob brutally attacking a well-justified freedom fighter without due process.

Yes, there were heroes in the sky on Flydubai Flight 1073. From the pilot to the passengers, these were heroes.

Though many don’t know it, every El Al flight to or from Israel has undercover agents on board just in case of a situation like this.

The Issue: Canada’s “medical assistance in dying” being the cause of one in 20 citizens’ deaths.

Canada increasingly resembles the dystopian society of Aldous Huxley’s “Brave New World” (“Dems’ Death Agenda,” Daniel McCarthy, PostOpinion, Oct. 1).

We are conditioned by tyrannical liberal leaders, like Mark Carney, to believe that all is well. He feeds us propaganda to assuage our daily anxiety. When that is insufficient, our leaders have a solution: voluntary suicide.

A good health-care system would make all modern science easily accessible for citizens in abject pain before allowing assisted suicide. But in Canada, our health-care capability has deteriorated.

Kudos to McCarthy for linking the expansion of legal abortion with the increasing legalization of assisted suicide. As a society, we are increasingly narrowing the definition of what a “worthwhile life” is.

God gets to decide when to call us home. Any society that usurps that right is doomed to destruction.
