Chiefs reach out to Tyreek Hill after emerging receiver’s devastating injury
The Chiefs defeated the Raiders 30-27 on Sunday to improve to 4-0 on the season, but the win didn’t come without concern as receivers Tyquan Thornton and Rashee Rice both went down with injuries. Thornton had a gruesome ankle injury while Rice strained his hamstring.
The Chiefs have already started looking for reinforcements at the position in the form of an old friend.
Per The Athletic’s Michael Silver, the Chiefs have reached out to Tyreek Hill’s agent Drew Rosenhaus about the possibility of a reunion. Hill has remained on the market after his own frightening knee injury with the Dolphins last season, which limited him to only four games before he was released by the team in February.
The report comes after Hill tweeted “hm” on Sunday following Thornton’s injury, which has put him out indefinitely, per the team.
Hill would be targeting a November return to the field, Silver said.
Hill won Super Bowl LIV with the Chiefs in 2020 before being traded to Miami, where he signed a four-year, $120 million contract extension in 2022. He has long made an impact on the field through six All-Pro selections and six 1,000-yard seasons, but he also brings off-the-field controversies, with several accusations of domestic violence.
Several former teammates endorse a potential return.
“That’s out of my hands, but I know I’d love to have ‘The Cheetah’ back in this building,” tight end Travis Kelce said. “He’s a brother. He’s one of those people who, when he sets his mind to something, he usually delivers. You saw that with Miami, when all the haters were saying he couldn’t play and he went and had his best year. I’d be excited by what he could do.”
“I have no idea [if that would happen], but it’d be pretty cool,” quarterback Patrick Mahomes said.
The Chiefs head back home to face the Chargers at Arrowhead Stadium next Sunday.
