The top movie at the box office this past weekend wasn’t a horror or a superhero franchise—it was Dakota Johnson’s new psycho-sexual thriller, Verity.

Based on Colleen Hoover’s 2018 novel of the same name, the Verity movie was directed by Michael Showalter (yes, the Wet Hot American Summer guy) and written by Nick Antosca. Anne Hathaway stars as Verity Crawford a fictional bestselling author who, for some mysterious reason, is unable to finish the highly-anticipated next book in her popular book series.

Enter Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson), a struggling writer looking for work. When Verity’s husband, Jeremy Crawford (Josh Hartnett) reaches out to hire Lowen as his wife’s ghostwriter, to finish the series, she accepts. But in the process of writing, Lowen uncovers some dark secrets about Verity and Jeremy that calls Verity’s entire career into question.

Verity raked in over $62 million at the worldwide box office in its opening weekend, already earning back it’s estimated $40 million production budget. But for those who haven’t seen the movie yet, how long will Verity be in theaters, and when will the Verity movie be streaming online? Read on to find out.

Where to watch the Verity movie:

For now, Verity the movie is only available to watch in a movie theater. You can find a showing near you via Fandango. Verity is not yet available to watch online or on streaming.

How long will Verity be in theaters?

We don’t know exactly how long the Verity movie will be in theaters, but our best guess is that the Verity movie will be in most big movie theaters until late October.

Verity is being released by Amazon MGM Studios, and the average theatrical run time of Amazon MGM titles varies. Master of the Universe, for example, had an average theatrical run of about 3.6 weeks, according to The Numbers. But Project Hail Mary, a much bigger Amazon MGM film, was in theaters for an average of 8.2 weeks. So far, Verity is doing better than Master of the Universe at the box office, but not as good as Project Hail Mary. So we’d guess you might see Verity in theaters for at least 4 weeks.

That said, how long a movie is in theaters is up to each individual theater complex, and is often dependent on how many screens a theater has, and how many other big titles are coming out that would push Verity off of those screens. There are some big titles coming up in October 2026—The Social Reckoning, Other Mommy, Street Fighter, Sense and Sensibility—so we suggest you don’t wait to go see Verity in theaters, if you want to see it on the big screen.

When will the Verity movie be on digital to buy and rent?

You might see the Verity movie on digital to buy or rent around early November 2026, in about one month after the movie opened in theaters, which is when most mid-budget movies come to digital.

That said, the Amazon MGM titles have not had a consistent release strategy. Master of the Universe began streaming free on Amazon Prime about a month and a half after opening in theaters, but still is not available to buy or rent online.

So you might see Verity streaming on Prime Video, free to Prime subscribers, before you see it on digital.

If you aren’t a Prime Video subscriber yet, you can get started with a 30-day Amazon Prime free trial, including Prime perks like the Prime Video streaming service, free two-day shipping, exclusive deals, and more. After the free trial, Amazon Prime costs $14.99/month or $139/year.

All 18- to 24-year-olds, regardless of student status, are eligible for a discounted Prime for Young Adults membership as well, with age verification. After a six-month free trial, you’ll pay 50% off the standard Prime monthly price of $14.99/month — just $7.49/month — for up to six years and get all the perks.

When will the Verity movie be streaming on Amazon Prime Video?

The Verity movie streaming release date on Prime Video has not yet been announced, and the Amazon MGM titles have been very inconsistent with their streaming release times. That said, it’s possible you might see Verity on Prime Video sometime in the seven to nine weeks.

Another 2026 Amazon MGM movie, Masters of the Universe began streaming on Amazon Prime about a month and a half, or seven weeks, after releasing in theaters. If Verity follows a similar release strategy, you might see Verity streaming free on Amazon Prime Video around mid-to-late November 2026. But other MGM movies took up to two or three months to come to Prime Video, so you might be waiting until December or even January.

This is all speculation. The streaming releases for Amazon MGM movies that go to theaters have varied wildly by title. So, you may have a longer wait before you see Verity on streaming. If you want to watch Verity right away, you can go see the movie in theaters.
