This is what a meltdown looks like.

This is what unraveling looks like. What a season-threatening fiasco looks like.

The Yankees committed four errors in their 5-2 Game 2 loss to the Rays on Monday night in St. Petersburg, Fla., putting them on the verge of elimination as they sank to a 2-0 series deficit in the ALDS.

And it was only due to a technicality that the Yankees avoided history, with the official scorer changing one of George Lombard Jr.’s misplays to a fielder’s choice. It would have been the first time since 1976 any team had five errors in a single playoff game.
