With Matt Reeves’s ‘The Batman Part II’ Delayed, Here Are 4 Other Matt Reeves Movies to Watch

After several delays with the script and pre-production, the sequel to The Batman starring Robert Pattinson—aka The Batman: Part II—finally started filming this summer in London. But now, according to a report from Deadline on Monday, the production has been paused due to a “family matter” that needs attention from director, writer, and producer Matt Reeves.

On Monday, Warner Bros. and DC Studios released a statement announcing the pause in production, which read, “Production on The Batman Part II has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter. Matt has the full support of DC Studios and we look forward to continuing the journey soon.”

It’s not yet clear if this delay will affect the film’s current release date, which is slotted for February 18, 2028. (This current release date was set in July 2026, pushing it from it’s previous release date of October 1, 2027, after having already been pushed from October 2026, and October 2025.)

This is of course, disappointing news for Batman fans who loved Matt Reeves’s new take on the franchise back in 2022. But while we wait for more news, there are a few other Matt Reeves movies you should check out, via the list below.

  1. Lizzy Caplan Cloverfield

Though not his first feature, this critically-acclaimed found-footage horror flick put Reeves on the map as a director to watch out for—someone with a signature style and a smart, fresh take on a horror trope. Written by Drew Goddard, the story—told entirely via recovered personal camcorder footage—follows six friends (Lizzy Caplan, Jessica Lucas, T.J. Miller, Michael Stahl-David, Mike Vogel, and Odette Yustman) fleeing from a monster in New York City. The film was a huge hit in theaters and with critics, and launched Reeves to a new level in his career.

Reeves followed up Cloverfield with an English-language remake of the Swedish horror film, Let the Right One In, about a 12-year-old boy (played by a young Kodi Smit-McPhee, 11 years before his Oscar nomination for The Power of the Dog) who develops a romantic relationship with a child vampire (Chloe Grace Moretz). While not nearly as big a hit as Cloverfield, the film was well-liked by critics—and adored by the horror king himself, Stephen King.

  3. Reeves’s first foray into a big-budget Hollywood franchise was Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the second film in the Planet of the Apes reboot franchise, following 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Reeves was hired to replace Rupert Wyatt, and delivered: The film was a box-office smash, and even earned an Oscar nomination for Best Visual Effects. It’s no wonder Reeves was hired back for the next film, War for the Planet of the Apes, too.

Maybe it’s an obvious choice, but the best Matt Reeves movie to watch while we wait for more news on The Batman: Part II is, of course, the Reeve’s first Batman film. The Batman put Robert Pattinson behind the mask, alongiside Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, a thief and nightclub waitress who crosses paths with Mr. Bruce Wayne and, thanks to mutual interests, ends up helping him chase justice. After years of scathing reviews for Zack Snyder’s take on the DC legend, Reeves revitalized the franchise with a compelling, film noir take that was financially successful and critically acclaimed. While we hope to see more of it, family always comes first.
