Shocking video shows teens on jet skis capsizing small boat with children aboard — angering locals

Jaw-dropping footage of a pair of teenagers on jet skis appearing to capsize a tinny with two children inside has angered locals.

The shocking clip was snapped in the Nerang River on the Gold Coast, near Surfers Paradise, over the weekend.

It appears to show two out of control jet skis driving dangerously in the water close to the small tinny and spraying it with water, causing it to capsize.

Queensland Police have now confirmed the two occupants of the tinny were children aged 10 and 14.

Thankfully, both boys were unharmed in the incident.

Two older teenage boys, aged 15 and 16, are now facing charges of dangerous operation of a vessel and assault.

Both parties were not known to each other.

They are each facing charges of dangerous operation of a vessel and assault.”

Gold Coast mayor Tom Tate said the incident was “unfathomable” at a press conference earlier today and confirmed that he would be looking into amping up security in the area.

“I’ll be talking to Queensland Police, specifically the water police, to see if they have enough resources.

“We might look at putting more cameras so we can get prosecutions, which would be a deterrent.

“Hopefully the footage can reveal who it is and we can capture them.”

“The jetskis were very aggressive towards tinny and didn’t bother to see if the two young victims were OK after rolling the boat,” Mr Collin told the Gold Coast Bulletin.

“The propeller was still spinning and the kids could have easily been trapped or knocked out and drowned.”

Mr Collin added that it was not the first time he had seen something like this happen in the area, branding it “pure stupidity”.

“They need to take their jet skis and cars, this behaviour is not on,” one said.

“It is about time these idiots were held accountable.”

“This happens every weekend at the Nerang boat ramp,” another shared.

“They are the e-bikes of the ocean.”
