Miley Cyrus’ new album suffers one of the biggest drops from No. 1 in Billboard chart history
Miley Cyrus has made Billboard history — but not the kind she was hoping for.
Her latest album, “Bass Persuades,” has plunged from No. 1 to No. 157 on the Billboard 200 in its second week, marking the biggest drop from the top spot by a female artist in chart history.
The album originally defied expectations by debuting at No. 1 on Sept. 28. It sold roughly 61,000 total album units, combining physical sales and streaming, according to Billboard.
The previous biggest drop by a female artist belonged to Madonna’s “Madame X,” which fell from No. 1 to No. 77 in 2019.
Celine Dion then surpassed that mark a few months later when “Courage” dropped from No. 1 to No. 111.
“Bass Persuades” is Cyrus’ first album released through Atlantic Records after she left Columbia Records earlier this year.
Atlantic offered the album at a discounted digital price and released 16 vinyl variants, nine CD versions, six download variants and a cassette, helping “Bass Persuades” beat country singer Ella Langley’s “Dandelion” by roughly 70 units.
Cyrus, who mysteriously dropped her last name from her social media handles ahead of the album’s release, celebrated the win when Atlantic sent a floral wreath shaped like a No. 1 to her home.
“Bass Persuades being #1 transcends a win,” Cyrus wrote on Instagram at the time.
“This process has been some of the best times for me. Everyone involved made it possible and more importantly fun and memorable,” she continued.
“Thank you Atlantic, my team, and everyone who walks beside me with conviction. I love you. To the fans you make my world go round. Making music for you brings immeasurable joy to my life. Forever.”
Taylor Swift has since returned to No. 1 with “The Life of a Showgirl,” helped by the release of its deluxe “Encore” edition.
Cyrus’ previous album, 2025’s “Something Beautiful,” debuted at No. 4 after selling about 44,000 total album units.
“Bass Persuades” is Cyrus’ first No. 1 album since 2013’s “Bangerz.”
The latest chart drop is also one of the steepest ever for a No. 1-debuting album.
Bon Jovi holds the overall record after “This House Is Not for Sale” fell from No. 1 to No. 169 in its second week in 2018.
Cyrus has not embarked on a full tour since her 2014 “Bangerz” world tour, though she has teased a possible residency.
She’s scheduled to perform two shows at the Hollywood Bowl on Oct. 16 and Oct. 18.
Nearly 1.5 million fans joined the online presale queue for a chance to buy one of the roughly 18,000 tickets, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
“I chose to do the show at the Bowl because I knew that my bed was only going to be like a 10-minute drive home by 11,” Cyrus told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe last month.
“I’ve learned now through the queue that my calculations are correct, and people will come to me. I don’t need to drive to you. Proven. That was a test. I win.”
