Sebastian Stan Says It Was “Very Nostalgic” Reuniting with Chris Evans on ‘Avengers: Doomsday:’ “We Grew Up Together”
It’s been 15 years since Sebastian Stan first shared the screen with Chris Evans in Captain America: The First Avenger, as Steve Rogers’s BFF Bucky Barnes. Now, six Marvel films and one bionic arm later, Stan and Evans will once again reprise their characters in Avengers: Doomsday, opening in theaters this December.
Decider recently spoke to Stan, who is doing press to promote his new critically-acclaimed film Fjord, which opens in U.S. theaters this Friday, October 9. But we couldn’t resist sneaking in a quick question about the upcoming Marvel film.
“I got a chance to reunite with everyone,” Stan said, when asked if he had a chance to reunite with Chris Evans. “It was very nostalgic to look back, and think about all of these years that we’ve known each other, and grew up together. It’s incredible in that way. It’s been a family and it never stops being that way.”

As for how much of Bucky fans can actually expect from the movie? That, Stan doesn’t know.
“I haven’t seen the movie, and I don’t know how it turned out,” he said. “I’m sure it’s going to be probably heartbreaking, in a lot of ways. We’ll see who makes it to the next level.”
Stan teasing “heartbreak” isn’t anything the MCU fans haven’t heard before—supposedly, Doomsday is rumored to have at least one, if not more than one, major character death. Listen, after “Mr. Stark, I don’t feel so good,” this fandom is ready for anything.
Stan’s new film Fjord isn’t much cheerier, but it is very good. Written and directed by Romanian filmmaker Cristian Mungiu, best known for his 2007 critically-acclaimed film, 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days. For Fjord, Mungiu was inspired by the true story of a Romanian family living in Norway, whose four children—and infant baby—were taken away by the country’s child protection services, after the parents admitted to spanking their children.
Stan stars in Fjord as Mihai Gheorghiu (whose name was changed from Marius Bodnariu), a religious Romanian man who moves his family to Norway, where his wife, Lisbet (Renate Reinsve, reuniting with Stan following 2024’s A Different Man), is from.
Fjord opens in select theaters on October 9, 2026.
